| Statement of Intellectual Structure: |
| "Interdisciplinary work in Legal Studies approaches law as a product
of social and historical processes and examines the manner in which law, in turn, shapes
society. The political, economic, and ethical functions of law are examined, as is the
structure and operation of the legal system. Recommended core and elective courses
approach law from the perspective of a number of disciplines including political science
and sociology. The student is expected to develop an understanding of the social and
political dynamics which generate laws and an awareness of the social role lawyers and the
legal profession play as interpreters and enforcers of the rules." |
