Program Type: Minor
Program Status: Macalester offers an interdisciplinary program (reorganized in 1993) leading to a minor in Legal Studies. The minor is available to students who complete a major or minor in one of the affiliated departments -- philosophy, psychology, political science, sociology, or history.
Statement of Intellectual Structure:
"This minor is designed to give students a broad, yet structured, academic grounding in interdisciplinary approaches, within the liberal arts, to the study of law and legal culture."
Program Curricular Organization: Students take five courses (no more than two from any affiliated department) dealing with the relationship of law to history, culture, politics, society and personality, as well as a required senior year, team-taught seminar in Legal Studies.
