Scheidler et al. v. National Organization for Women, Inc., et al., No. 01-1118, and Operation Rescue v. National Organization for Women, Inc., et al., No. 01-1119, ask whether abortion protesters who conduct sit-ins and demonstrations at abortion clinics can be subjected to either the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), 18 U.S.C. § 1964(c), which was enacted to combat organized crime, or the Hobbs Act, 18 U.S.C. § 1951(b)(2), which makes it a crime to obstruct, delay, or affect interstate commerce by robbery or "extortion."
