Preview of United States Supreme Court Cases provides accurate, plain English explanations of the issues, facts, background and significance of every case before oral argument. After Preview Issue No. 3 covering the Court's December calendar of cases had already been published, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear arguments in Bush v. Palm Beach County Canvassing Board, et al. on Friday, December 1, and later, George W. Bush, et al. v. Albert Gore, Jr., et al. on Monday, December 11.
In keeping with Preview's responsibility to cover every case prior to argument, we are providing online FAQs on the issues and arguments in these cases as they proceed.
The petitioner in both George W. Bush, et al. v. Albert Gore, Jr., et al. and Bush v. Palm Beach County Canvassing Board, et al. (Texas Gov. George W. Bush) and the respondents (Vice President Albert Gore, Jr. and others) presented their arguments in briefs filed with the Supreme Court and at oral arguments. The positions described in the FAQs are drawn from the briefs filed by the parties, who are referred to as Petitioner and Respondents.
