Winter/Spring 2008 Environmental Law & Public Policy: From Grassroots to Government

Summit Menu:
We're glad you've chosen to apply for the 2008 Summit. Please note that the application process includes four steps. To access other areas of the 2008 Summit, or to return to the main National Online Youth Summit page, use the Summit Menu to the right.

Application Part I: Technology

Technology Requirements
We will be using FuseTalk software for our online communications. Please read the technology requirements below to make sure that your school's computers will be able to use this software. There will also be a quick software test for you to perform; we ask that you use a school computer (lab or classroom) for this test, as school computers will be used during the summit.

To participate in the summit, your school computers must be able to support the use of this software which will be accessed from the ABA website. The ABA will provide a software guide that will help you become familiar with FuseTalk should you be chosen to participate. However, the ABA is not able to provide technical support.

Browser Requirements for FuseTalk
The suggested minimum software requirement for accessing the ABA discussion boards (FuseTalk) is listed below:

  • Internet Explorer (IE) version 4 and higher
  • Netscape version 4 and higher
  • Opera version 5.12 and higher
  • Safari
  • Firefox version 1.0 and higher (Note: There are known display issues with this browser)
Please be sure that your Internet browser matches one of the above versions; if you are a Mac user, be sure you are using Safari as your browser.

Software Test
Note: The first time you access FuseTalk, an HTML editor applet will need to be installed. This is usually a quick, seamless process, although on some occasions, there are problems. (See Troubleshooting below if you have problems.)

For this test, you will be asked to log in to FuseTalk using the login provided below. You will also be asked to post a message in reply to the one you see after you log in. Please follow the steps below in the order they are given. Clicking on the link below will launch a new browser window.

    1. Click on this link to open a new window for FuseTalk.

    2. Log in to FuseTalk with the following information. Please note that these are case-sensitive.

      Username: teacher07
      Password: apply

    3. After you log in, you will be asked to accept an agreement. Click on "I accept."

    4. After accepting, please wait a moment before clicking on anything else.

    5. Click on 2008 NOYS Software Test.

    6. You should see a message called "Welcome Summit Applicants"—click on this message to read it.

    7. Click on the "Reply" link located at the bottom right of the message.

    8. Please wait a moment while your editor is installed. This should only take a few seconds, and you will see a blue status bar indicating progress. If your screen remains gray and you do not see a status bar, please skip ahead to Troubleshooting below.

    9. Once your editor is installed, you'll see a message box for your reply. Please type in the following:

I was able to access FuseTalk and reply to this message.

    10. Sign your name and the name of your school. (ex. John Smith, Washington High)

    11. Click "Reply to Topic" to post your reply.

    12. Click the Logout link at the top left of FuseTalk.

If your test was successful, please go on to Part II of the application. If your test was unsuccessful, see below.

Troubleshooting
If you were able to log in but were unable to post a message, please shut down all of your applications and restart your computer.

If the above solved your problem, great! Go to Part II of the application.

If you still have problems accessing FuseTalk, please consult with your school's technology or computer expert to determine the cause of the problem; it is possible that your computers are behind a firewall. Also be sure that your browser meets the requirements listed above.
