Richard Gahr High School is a four-year comprehensive school located in the suburban community of Cerritos, California, in southeastern corner of Los Angeles County. The School serves students from the cities of Artesia, Cerritos, Lakewood and Norwalk. The United States Census Department has recognized the city as one of the ten most ethnically diverse in the entire nation. The school community's ownership in Gahr began in 1965 when it became the first high school in the newly established ABC Unified School District. As the community changed, so has Gahr High School. The ethnic distribution of the current school population of approximately 1,900 is thirty percent Hispanic, nineteen percent Caucasian, twenty-five percent Asian, thirteen percent African-American, ten percent Filipino, one percent Pacific-Islander and two percent other.
