Spring 2003: "Access Denied: Should Youth Access to the Internet be Restricted?"

Central York High School - York, PA
Class: Law
Hi... We are the students from Central York High School. We are located approximately 30 minutes south of Harrisburg, the capital of PA and we are about an hour north of Baltimore. Our district is mainly surburban, but we do have areas that are more rural, as well as a more urban setting. Some things of local interest include the Weight Lifting Hall of Fame and both Harley-Davidson and Pfaltzgraff are headquartered here.
Our class is very diverse. While the majority of us are caucasian, we also have students that are African American, Indian, Middle Eastern, and Hispanic. The diversity lends itself to great interaction and class discussions. However, while our class embraces the diversity, the community of York City, which is just a few blocks from our school, has been associated with many racial problems. You may have seen it featured on VH1 in relation to the past racial tensions. In fact, we made national news much of last year in regard to the 1969 Race Riots in York. Many of the participants, including the former mayor, were placed on trial for a death of a young African American girl that occurred during the riots. The trial is now over and things are slowly getting back to normal, but many white supremacy groups have targeted our area because of the trial.
We look forward to interacting with so many different classes from across the country!
