Spring 2003: "Access Denied: Should Youth Access to the Internet be Restricted?"
Participants
Mojave High School - North Las Vegas, NV
Class: U.S. Government Honors
Mojave High School is located in North Las Vegas, Nevada and is a growing community of over 1 million people. The Clark County School District, which we are a part of, is the 6th largest school district in the country and our "small" town is famous for gambling and travel and tourism.
Our school is home to approximately 2400 students, who represent a diverse student population. Our student make-up is 28% African American, 31% white, 33% Hispanic, 5% Asian, 2% Native American and 1% other. We find our diversity to be a great asset to our learning community due to an array of ethnic and social individuality.
We are members of Ms. Leach's U.S. Government Honors class and are proud and excited to be participating in the National Online Youth Summit. We had a very busy 1st semester preparing for the We the People competition, where we took 2nd place in our District. We are looking forward to acquiring a better understanding of the First Amendment and its role in our daily lives where Internet access is concerned. Most of all, we are excited and eager to work and learn from students across the country.
