Spring 2003: "Access Denied: Should Youth Access to the Internet be Restricted?"

Edco Youth Alternative is a work-study program. It is located in Kenmore Square near Fenway Park and Boston University. Our student population is very diverse and from all parts of the city.
City high schools are large and loud. That environment makes learning very difficult. Here, all classes are small. In fact, the largest class can have no more than 15. The students have fun learning and have a comfortable, friendly relationship with fellow students as well as faculty. Smaller classes work to our advantage because teachers can pay individual attention to the students. That makes it easier to learn and understand.
Edco is unlike other schools. We are in an office building, and there are only 5 classrooms. The hallway has couches for us to relax on during the mid-morning break. The faculty will do anything to help us as long as we show an effort to try our best. We have no gym and no sports teams. Almost every other Tuesday we go bowling as a school, break up into teams. This helps bring the students closer together in a social way.
We feel fortunate to have Edco. It is good to come to a place everyday to see friendly people and have fun learning and feel safe, secure, and comfortable.
