Caldwell County High School - Princeton, KY
Class 1 of 2: Street Law - 1st Block

Caldwell County High School is located in western Kentucky about 50 miles east of Paducah. We are very close to the lakes area where Barkley and Kentucky dams are located. We are considered to be a rural area and we have lots of farmland and a few large businesses and industries like Wal-Mart and Bremner (which makes Ralston-Purina products). We have four distinct seasons in our area with temperatures ranging from the teens in the winter to around 100 degrees in the summer. It is usually quite hot and humid during the summer time and that makes the lakes area quite busy with boating, fishing and swimming.

We have 633 students as of 2/3/03 and house 9th through 12th grades. We offer classes that range from agriculture to business to a vocational school located right next door to the high school. We have a lot of clubs, organizations, and athletic groups for our students. Clubs include FBLA, FCCLA, KJHS (Kentucky Junior Historical Society), NHS, and we just began a new chess club this semester. Our FFA is ranked as a National Top 10 Chapter. We offer football, boys and girls basketball, track, soccer, baseball and softball, tennis, golf, wrestling and volleyball. We're on block scheduling with a split 4th block and we have four computer labs. Two of them are iMac labs, one is an IBM lab and the last is a technical lab with specific modules for students to complete. We have a newly remodeled science lab that includes SmartBoard technology. We also offer the usual high school activities like prom and project graduation plus we have a spring musical each year. This year's production will be "Cinderella."

Our school is safe and clean and we have a great staff and student body. Our teachers truly care about our education. In fact, one student refers to our school as "another home for me." That's the way most of our students feel about CCHS and we couldn't be prouder of that fact.

Class 2 of 2: Street Law - 2nd Block

Caldwell County High School is a one story building located in the small town of Princeton, Kentucky at the western end of the state. We are in a rural area and have limited businesses and industries. We have about 630 students in grades 9 through 12 and our student to teacher ratio is about 16:1. We offer various clubs and sports such as basketball, football, volleyball and FCA, Pep, Champions Against Drugs and FFA. We are nationally ranked in the top 10 chapters in FFA. Because of our size, our lunches are split into three groups. Some students feel that is their best "class" - lunch!

Of course our school needs improvement just like everyone else. Some rules are only made because some students abuse or misuse their privileges and the non-offenders have to deal with additional restraints. We suppose that is normal for everyone. In Street Law class we cover basic knowledge of the law, including studying the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and other amendments. We also cover tort law, family law, consumer law and criminal law and other aspects of the law that touch our everyday lives. It helps us to understand that limits are sometimes necessary, especially in a school setting.

We have good technology available for student use and our school spirit is always at a high level. We have kind teachers and good classes that range from introduction to agriculture all the way to AP Calculus. Our town and our school have lots of friendly people and there's not much traffic so it doesn't take long to get to school each day. Overall, it's not a bad place to be!
