Belaire High School - Baton Rouge, LA
Class: Law Studies

The name of our school is Belaire High School. We are located in the capital city of Louisiana, Baton Rouge. We are the home of the mighty Bengal Tiger, which has derived from ancient India. Many of our organizations have derived from ancient India also. They are: the Lancer Band, Brigade, Veta yearbook, Kannada Review, and the Natya Drama Club. During Homecoming, we celebrate the festival of Dwali, which literally translated to mean "a festival of lights." Dwali is reigned over by the queen and her court. They are presented in authentic dress as a part of our ceremony.

Our school day time is 7:15 a. m. through 2:35 p. m., Monday through Friday. The course that this assignment is completed for is Law Studies I, under the instruction of Mrs. B. Wilkerson. Our class is consisted of fifteen students from the grade level 10th through the 11th grade. Our school consists of a population of approximately 1,000 students. The racial make-up of our school population is seventy-one percent of African-American, twenty-seven percent of Caucasian, one percent Asian, and one percent Hispanic. We have many clubs and organizations. Our extracurricular activities include: basketball, soccer, football, cheerleading, track, the dance team (Bengalettes), wrestling, volleyball, etc.

Our city population is 500,000 plus. Baton Rouge is a very diverse community. Ranging in income and nationality. There are industries such as: Demco, Exxon Mobil, Entergy, and etc., which support youngsters such as our fellow classmates and ourselves. These industries take up approximately sixty percent of our community as far as business is concerned.

The students of this class have decided to learn the from the summit: (a) more about different people and their opinions on different topics that we are to be discussing in this youth summit (b) and to become more open-minded and improve our critical thinking skills.
