Spring 2001: Does Capital Punishment Have a Future?

Participants
Sandalwood Sr. High School - Jacksonville, FL
Class: Law Studies (2) plus Philosophy (1)

Greetings to all from the "Saints" of Sandalwood High. We are a school of over 2800 students and for this summit we have our two Law Studies classes and one Philosophy class participating in this great event.

Jacksonville is governed as a consolidated city, meaning that the city and Duval County are one and the same, making this city one of the largest cities, in geographic terms, in the USA. Duval County, of which we are a part, has 17 high schools, and an enrollment of over 127,000 students.

Of course we think we are the best, but we have the "stats" to prove it!

Mr. Catullo is our "site manager" and Law Studies teacher, and he is being assisted by Mr. Mowbray (Philosophy) and Ms. Adkins (Debate). Our Law classes recently were visited by the Hon. Charles Wells, Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, and we enjoyed a delightful 3 hour mock oral argument session with the C.J. Next up for us is a visit to the state Supreme Court in early March and then a visit to the school by two Circuit Court Judges from the area. Our County Sheriff, heading up a 1750 member police force, is also coming to speak to our classes, so all in all we are enjoying a very diverse and interesting semester course.

Anyone coming to Florida (or Mickey Mouse country) please don't hesitate to stop by and see us. We are at 2750 John Prom Blvd. in Jacksonville's east side (heading towards our famous and gorgeous beaches!). Good luck and a warm welcome to all of you participating in the Summit. And, oh yes, "Go JAGS"!!!!
