Spring 2001: Does Capital Punishment Have a Future?

We are Mrs. Nancy Schwartz's 6th period American Government class at Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Magnet High School for the Health Sciences and Engineering. Our class consists mainly of freshmen, although we have a few sophomores also. MLK is located in the center of downtown Nashville, the capitol of Tennessee and home of the Tennessee Titans football team. MLK is a small school of nine hundred students, grades 7-12, which consists of many diverse ethnic cultures.Our school provides many extracurricular activities for academics and athletics. We have a highly prestigious basketball team that is currently on its way to the state tournament.

MLK was once known as Pearl High School, which was one of the first black high schools in Nashville in 1885. It later became a magnet school for the health sciences and engineering in 1985.
