Spring 2001: Does Capital Punishment Have a Future?

Participants
The Louise S. McGehee School - New Orleans, LA
Class: U.S. Government

Louise S. McGehee School is a private, all girls school located in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans is a culturally diverse city situated at the mouth of the Mississippi resulting in a large variety of backgrounds. McGehee fosters the education of young girls and the upbringing of future leaders. Our school is based on an honor system, which is a very unique because of the trust it creates between the faculty and students. McGehee is technologically advanced, in that every student has a laptop, and every classroom is Internet accessible. Each class is very small resulting in a close-knit community between faculty, students, and administration. It is not hard to see how our comfortable relationships, familiar surroundings, and beautiful setting make McGehee not only a great place to learn but also a wonderful place to grow up.

Our class at Louise S. McGehee School consists of twenty-four girls with a variety of voices. We are a close-knit group, and the diversity in our ideas and beliefs contributes to our group dynamic. We have our leaders, our artistically talented, our religious, and our kind-hearted girls. Together we strike a perfect balance. Each girl’s personality and opinions are valued and accepted. We are friendly and welcoming, and we are always willing to listen to other ideas, even if these ideas cause controversy. We don’t hesitate to speak our minds, which sometimes leads to disagreements, but we are able to use our problem solving skills to find solutions. We are excited about participating in this forum and talking to new people from around the country. We will be interested in hearing the rest of the nation’s views concerning the future of the death penalty.
