ABA Division for Public Education: NOYS 2001: Participants: Cranford High School

Spring 2001: Does Capital Punishment Have a Future?

Participants
Cranford High School - Cranford, NJ
Class: Law in American Society

Ms. Wang's Law in American Society Class at Cranford High School is happy to participate in this year's NOYS. Cranford High School is made up of about 98% White students and about 2% are either African American, Hispanic, or Asian. About 1,000 students attend CHS which is located in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. Most students agree that its sports teams and the varied electives available are the best features of CHS. Most teams are very successful and some, such as the girls' soccer team, are nationally ranked. The student body participates in sports and other extra-curricular activities to a high degree, often coming in to school early and leaving in the evening.

Many students agree that living in Cranford is fun because friends are usually no more than a short walk away and it is close to both New York City and the Jersey Shore. Either option is only about 30 minutes away. Students are anxious to participate in the NOYS and the law class because they feel the issues presented relate directly to their everyday lives.
