Program Highlights

  • F.L.Y. provides a 16-week course in law-related education for 1st-time juvenile offenders between the ages of 12-17.
  • F.L.Y. also links youths with a mentor in the community and assists families in accessing resources that may assist in reducing recursion.
  • Law for Your Life Prevention Program: A weeklong interactive presentation about juvenile law and the consequences of crime for middle school students. Following the presentations, F.L.Y. runs a monthly law club, organizes field trips to Santa Clara University, and trains students in peer leadership.
  • Legal Eagle: Volunteer law students teach young people about juvenile law and the consequences of crime while building life skills such as conflict resolution, problem solving, and anger managment.
  • Mentoring: Volunteer college and graduate students work one-on-one with youth receiving treatment for drug and alcohol addiction.
  • Peer Leadership: Teens who graduate from the Legal Eagle, Mentor, or Law for Your Life Programs are recruited to attend a summer leadership retreat. At the retreat they complete a ropes course, participate in self-esteem building activities, attend leadership seminars, and brainstorm enhancements for F.L.Y.'s programs. After the retreat they assist in recruiting, interviewing, and training volunteers; they also co-teach the law course to other youth; mentor volunteers; and design new programs. Peer leaders provide 1000 hours of community service per year to F.L.Y.
