Program Highlights

  • AZ High School Mock Trial Program (9-12), Students learn about the law and the legal system by participating in a simulated trial. The program is an opportunity for students to learn about the law and the legal system from practicing attorneys; teachers to work closely with attorneys to reinforce legal concepts in the classroom; and attorneys to share their expertise about the law and their legal skills with young people.
  • Community Works (7-9), Smart Teens Make Safer Communities combines education and service to reduce teen victimization and to involve youth in their communities. The Foundation has developed a partnership with Street Law, Inc. and National Crime Prevention Council to implement this semester-long curriculum in 30 Arizona Schools.
  • LawForKids.org (all ages), is a website about the law created especially for kids. Volunteer attorneys answer kids questions about the law, and educational cartoons cover topics relevant to the lives of today's youth. The online template for LawForKids.org is available for license to other state LRE centers interested in bringing this tremendous resoruce to their community.
  • LRE Academy, provides school resource officers and juvenile probation officers LRE training and instruction that is effective and research-based. The Academy annually offers over 40 basic and advanced LRE courses designed to assist educators with the implementation of law-related education lessons and activities.
  • Project Citizen (6-9), is a curricular program for middle grade students promotes participation in local and state government. A class works cooperatively to identify a public policy issue in their community. They conduct research, evaluation of alternative solutions, development of their own public policy solution and create an action plan to convince local or state authorities to adopt their proposed policy change. During the process, students develop tolerance, feelings of political efficacy, and appreciation for democratic values and principles.
  • We the People…The Citizen and the Constitution (4-12), is an instructional program enhances students’ understanding of the institutions of American constitutional democracy. At the same time, students discover the contemporary relevance of the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The curriculum culminates with a simulated congressional hearing where students evaluate contemporary constitutional issues and defend their positions to a panel of community judges.
  • The Foundation has convened a group of community organizations and stakeholders to advance the civic mission of schools in Arizona. The Coalition is collecting local data on civic measures and exemplary civic education programs and will conduct local town halls throughout the state of Arizona to craft a comprehensive statewide approach to strengthen civic learning in Arizona schools.
  • LRE Resource Library, is a clearinghouse of law-related education curricula, lesson plans, books, videos and other related and prevention materials. It is a free service. Materials are available on a loan basis for a two-week period, and can be browsed online.
