Christopher Eckhardt, John and Mary Beth Tinker were in their early teens when they wore black armbands to school in December 1965 to express their mourning for the casualties of the Vietnam conflict. Their act of civil disobedience resulted in the landmark Tinker v. Des Moines Supreme Court case.
