ABA Law Day: Sample Programs: Arizona Bar Foundation

Arizona Bar Foundation [www.lawforkids.org]

The Arizona Bar Foundation has a web site dedicated to teaching children about the law. Though not specifically tied to Law Day, it has many features that your program could easily adapt to Law Day, especially considering the focus of Law Day 2001.

  • A “Youth Laws” section can alert kids to the laws that affect them.
  • The section entitled “Personal Stories” can give youngsters insights into the experiences of their peers.
  • The “Speak Up” section enables students to ask questions about how the law and justice system work; volunteer lawyers provide the answers. The website editor reviews the questions and forwards them to the lawyers if they are appropriate.
  • “School Stuff” is a natural place for law-related curriculum, lesson plans, and the like.
  • “Youth Links” and “Parent Links” provide an easy way for youngsters and adults to learn about useful information found elsewhere on the web.
