Lunch 'n' Learn the Law Programs

Practical Law During Lunch

Give your communities some food for thought this year by holding a series of worksite-based lunchtime presentations on practical legal issues.

A basic understanding of everyday law is essential to modern survival and to achieving the American dream. Legal questions regularly surface concerning both major and minor life events—getting a credit card, renting an apartment, marrying, and buying a home.

But knowledge of the law is often out of reach for many busy adults. The Lunch ‘n’ Learn program, designed by the ABA’s Division for Public Education, solves this problem by taking the law to the community at the most practical time in the most convenient setting—the workplace.

The one-hour format is equally convenient for busy lawyers who volunteer to visit worksites and present these programs. The format is cost-free to the host company and includes a short talk by an attorney, followed by a question-and-answer session. Presenters distribute handouts available through the ABA’s Division for Public Education or from their bar associations. Employees provide their own brown-bag lunches and enjoy the convenience of not having to leave the workplace.

Consider organizing one or more of these programs on Law Day/Law Week or consider beginning a year-long series. A promotional videotape and handbook available through the ABA can help plan your program.
