Producing a Call-in Show
How to Look Your Best on TV

  • Remember that the camera sees color and pattern differently than the human eye. Dress for the camera.
  • Keep your camera outfit simple, plain and low-key. The audience should focus on you, not what you’re wearing.
  • Avoid wearing white, red or black. Instead stick with "medium" colors: blue, green, wine, dark gray, purple, pink etc.
  • Don’t wear loud patterns or glittery material. Also avoid shiny jewelry which can reflect light.
  • Don’t wear anything loud or distracting, for example a sweater with a large turkey embroidered on it.
  • If you have light hair, consider wearing lighter colors. Dark hair calls for medium colors—but not black.
  • Relax and take a deep breath before you go on the air.
  • Find a comfortable position you can maintain throughout the taping session. Avoid fidgeting—it makes you look nervous.
  • Make minimal hand gestures. The camera magnifies movement.
  • Smile and make eye contact with the host. Look interested. Don’t let the camera catch you staring into space.
