Utah is celebrating Law Day

Utah is planning for Law Day 2009
Judge for a Day: Nearly 30 high school students have been selected to shadow a judge for one day in April or May. The program provides students with a unique opportunity to learn first-hand about a judge's work and the operation of the court system.

Hinckley Institute of Politics Panel: On April 20 or 21, the Hinckley Institute of Politics will host a panel discussion on "The Promise of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." The panel is comprised of Chief Justice Christine M. Durham, Lt. Governor Gary Herbert, and Senator Ross Romero.

Proclamation Signing: Governor Jon Huntsman will sign a proclamation declaring May 1 as Law Day statewide.

Newspaper Insert: A Law Day newspaper insert that will highlight topics related to Lincoln and his legacy. Look for the insert statewide in the May 1 editions of the Deseret Morning News and The Salt Lake Tribune.

Art and the Law Contest: 3rd District Court judges have signed up to judge The Salt Lake County Bar Association's annual "Art and the Law" student art contest. The project provides a forum for Salt Lake County elementary and junior high students to express their artistic vision about what the law means in connection with the Law Day theme.

Law Day Lunch: The Utah State Bar's Young Lawyers Division will host a Law Day luncheon on May 1 at Little America Hotel. The speaker will be Ron Anderson who is a noted expert on Lincoln and author of "Abraham Lincoln—God’s Humble Instrument."
