Arizona is celebrating Law Day
Maricopa County Superior Court is celebrating Law Day!
To honor Lincoln's legacy of liberty and his bicentennial, the State Bar of Arizona, the Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County, and the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education have teamed up to sponsor a YouTube contest.
Our contest is open to all Arizona students in kindergarten through high school. Create a YouTube video demonstrating what you have learned about Lincoln, his legal background, and what influence it had on his presidency and our nation’s history.
Videos should be three minutes or less in length. Upload your video to the contest Web site. Fill out the application and permission form. The deadline to enter is April 1, 2009. Please visit www.azbar.org/LawDay/ or www.superiorcourt.maricopa.gov for more information.
Ten finalists will be invited to show their videos at the Law Day 2009 program which will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on May 1, 2009 at the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors’ Auditorium in downtown Phoenix. A panel of Superior Court judges and representatives from the State Bar of Arizona will pick the top three winners.
The student who wins first place will receive $400. The second place winner will receive $300 and the third place winner will receive $200.

Pima County Superior Court and the Pima County Bar Association
On May 4 approximately 300 high school students will participate in a Law Day program. A short film reflecting Lincoln's legacy, and a slideshow presentation reflecting the achievements of President Lincoln, created by the Law Day committee members will be presented. Following the film and the slideshow, the students will hear from Dr. Brooks Simpson, a professor from Arizona State University, who will explore Abraham Lincoln's legacy. Participants will then observe court proceedings in the Superior Court and have the opportunity to discuss the theme of Lincoln's legacy, and how our current justice system helps maintain his ideals of liberty and equality. A grant from the Arizona Humanities Council has made Dr. Simpson's presentation possible and lunch is being donated by a local business. All the attendees will receive a Law Day gift bag including Law Day items, and various publice information pamphlets.
This Law Day program is made possible by the collaboration of the Court and the Young Lawyers Division and the generous support of the volunteers from both groups, as well as the grant from the Arizona Humanities Council.
