Louisiana's Youngest Politicians is celebrating Law Day

The University of VA has made the Youth Initiative program, with web voting and lesson plans, available to all of our public schools who wish to include the study of law in their curriculum. Traditionally, 600 students from Phoenix Academic Magnet begin to review the studies or law and how it pertains to their community by observing and participating in the celebration of September's Constitution Day. In December our amendments to the constitution are reviewed and observed during Bill of Rights Day. Twelve years ago, Mrs. Leary with the ABA in Chicago, Illinois, mentored the creation of our law curriculum. Now, our local, Peabody High School Court Room and the 9th District Teen Court have allowed the elementary school to join their activities and use their facilities. Our mayors and governor continue to mentor Louisiana's Youngest Politicians. The students have requested the ABA proclamation for Law Day from their mayor and Governor Jindal has written and proclaimed Children's Day on May 1st.This tradition began with the students' study of the law and the need for adults to focus on the education and protection of children through our laws.
