Law Day Activities Announced for Southern Nevada

In Southern Nevada, the Clark County Bar Association (CCBA) is pleased to announce this year's activities in honor of Law Day. In honor of this national event, CCBA will be participating in two different ways: first by sending attorneys and judges to speak to local high school classes and second by presenting the Liberty Bell Award. While Monday, May 1 is the official day, this year the bar will host Law Day activities throughout May.

  • On May 2, 2006, the CCBA, in partnership with the State Bar of Nevada and the Clark County School District, will send volunteer attorneys and judges to local high schools to participate in the American Bar Association formatted "Liberty Under Law: Empowering Youth, Assuring Democracy." Originally scheduled for May 3, this event will be rescheduled. For more information on the new date and how to get involved, contact Kathy Yanke, Public Services Coordinator or (702) 387-6011.

  • On May 17, 2006, the CCBA's Community Service Committee will be holding their annual Liberty Bell Award ceremony at the CCBA's May 17 luncheon with the presentation of the award made by the luncheon's featured speaker, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman. The winner of the award will be considered on how well he or she: promotes a better understanding of our Constitution and the Bill of Rights; encourages greater respect for the law and the courts; stimulates a deeper sense of individual responsibility so citizens recognize their duties as well as their rights; contributes to the effective functioning of our governmental institutions and fosters a better understanding and appreciation of the law. The luncheon will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at a location yet to be determined in Las Vegas. For more information or to register for the luncheon, contact CCBA at (702) 387-6011 or visit www.clarkcountybar.org.

CCBA is a non-profit member organization that includes members throughout the county, state and nation. Its purpose is to provide meaningful services to members, opportunities for collegiality and social interaction, perform outreach services to the community at large and to promote professionalism.
