Law Day Events

The Polk County Bar Association (Des Moines, Iowa) is sponsoring a student art, poetry, music and drama competition again for middle and high school students. We are not using the 2007 ABA Theme this year, since we needed to start our process before the ABA materials were available. Instead, we are building on last year's theme by focusing on the judicial branch, with a theme of "Celebrate Your Freedom: Protecting Your Rights, Protecting Our Courts." We are teaching kids about the importance of judicial independence and its impact on their lives and in our communities, now and in the future. As always, the winners will be honored at our May luncheon, an Iowa Supreme Court justice will speak to the students about this subject and their creative endeavors will be displayed at various places around town.
