The following article describes an interactive case study through which students can gain a deeper appreciation of the dynamic tensions of the First Amendment, in particular the meaning of the free exercise of religion and establishment clauses. This classroom activity is part of a series of 1Voice lessons, created by a partnership between the Knight Foundation and Channel One.

The U.S. Department of Education provides an overview of guidelines on prayer in the public school, as well as archived directives on religion and the public schools.
