Division for Public Education: National Hispanic Heritage Month 2002




 

The Public Education Division of the ABA celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15—October 15) by featuring four prominent Hispanic-American lawyers and jurists throughout the month. These individuals are being recognized for their exemplary service to the community, their professional record of groundbreaking achievements, and their exemplary service to the legal profession.

Week 1: J. Robert Flores—Administrator for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention

Week 2: Elma Teresa Salinas Ender—The first Mexican-American woman appointed & elected to a District Court in Texas, 1983.

Week 3: Justice Carlos Moreno—Sworn in as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of California in October 2001, he is the third judge of Hispanic heritage to serve in the court's 150-year history.

Week 4: Alberto R. Gonzales—Commissioned as Counsel to President George W. Bush in 2001, Justice Al Gonzales formerly sat on the Texas Supreme Court.
