ABA Division for Public Education: National Hispanic Heritage Month 2001




 

From September 15 through October 15, 2001—National Hispanic Heritage Month—this site will be profiling the lives of four outstanding Hispanic-American lawyers and jurists. These individuals are being recognized for their exemplary service to the community, their professional record of groundbreaking achievements, and their exemplary service to the legal profession.

The four individuals we will profile during National Hispanic Heritage Month 2001 are:

  • Week 1 (Sept. 15 - Sept. 23) Adelfa Botello Callejo, a Dallas-based lawyer and community activist
  • Week 2 (Sept. 24 - Sept. 30) Henry B. Gonzalez, the first Mexican American to represent Texas in the U.S. Congress
  • Week 3 (Oct. 1 - Oct. 7) Antonia Hernández, President and General Counsel of MALDEF
  • Week 4 (Oct. 8 - Oct. 15) Petra Jimenez Maes, the first Latina appointed to New Mexico’s Supreme Court
