Conversations in Classrooms

Closing the Conversation

Bring each conversation to a close within the specified time announced, but give a fifteen-minute warning as a session draws to a close to allow time for summarizing what has transpired. Small groups may be asked to provide 3 or 4 major points raised in the conversation. Students may be asked to share beliefs or attitudes that were reinforced or changed as a result of the conversation. Or they may be asked to comment on the efficacy or impact of the conversation for them. Although it is not necessary that the class come to any formal conclusion at the end of each session, the feedback may help the discussion leader in shaping future sessions.
