Networking

Marilyn Cover and Dee RunaasConferees had an opportunity to meet and talk informally with others, sharing research, teaching methods, program interests, insights, etc., during the Network Building Luncheon. Tables were organized by topic and each had a facilitator. Topics included: youth courts, juvenile justice settings, best practices in LRE, effective use of resource leaders, law school programs, service learning, statewide outreach, getting funding for LRE, and using technology to enrich LRE.

Table 1: Best Practices in LRE
Come discuss approaches to incorporating best practices into your programs, as well as successful instructional methods and strategies.

Table 2: Effectively Using Resource Leaders
One of the Essentials of Law-Related Education is access to, and effective use of, community resource leaders. Identifying resource leaders and ways of involving them in your programs will be discussed.

Table 3: Getting Funding for LRE
Have great program ideas but no means of funding them? Come and learn how to identify potential funding sources and several strategies that have proven effective.

Table 4: Juvenile Justice Settings
Interested in learning more about the Juvenile Justice community? Hear about past and current efforts in these settings, and learn how you might develop partnerships of your own.

Table 5: Law School Programs
Through law schools, law students develop resources, technical materials, and programs designed to educate young people about the law. Learn about outstanding law school programs, how to identify programs in your area, and ways of working with them to enhance your LRE efforts.

Table 6: Service Learning
Service learning provides hands-on, community-building experience, in which students see, firsthand, the importance of their rights and responsibilities, and how they can be a force for positive change in their communities. Join in a discussion of service learning approaches and implementation strategies.

Table 7: Statewide Outreach
What does statewide outreach entail? Are there more important types of outreach than others? How does one begin developing an outreach plan? Join with others to discuss the mechanics of effective statewide outreach.

Table 8: Using Technology to Enrich LRE
Discover the many ways technology can enhance your LRE programs. Online resources, programs, strategies, and activities will be highlighted.

Tables 9 & 10: Youth Court
Youth Court is the fastest growing crime prevention program in the United States. Youth Court models, training materials, and methods if implementation will be discussed.
