Biennial Conferences, Higher Education
In past years, the Division held higher education conferences, inviting faculty
from the social sciences, humanities, law and legal studies, public policy, and other
fields, to examine a particular topic of law and the liberal arts (e.g., family law, law
and science, religion and law). Combining sessions presented by expert scholars in the
field, speakers' panels on general themes, and small group discussions on applications for
classroom teaching, the conferences provided faculty with a unique chance to encounter new
colleagues, concepts, and resources. Information and resources for our conference on Law, Religion,
and the Moral Order are below.
Supreme Court Program at the ABA Annual Meeting
We conduct a Supreme Court program every summer at the ABA Annual Meeting. Nationally recognized experts review the recently completed term, focusing on such areas as the First Amendment and the Fourth Amendment. Click on the link below for more information.
The Leon Jaworski Public Program Series
As president of the ABA in 1971, Leon Jaworski established the special committee that became the genesis of the Association’s Division for Public Education. In 1983, a bequest from his estate generously established the Leon Jaworski Fund for Public Education, which continues to support annual public programs devoted to furthering public understanding of law and the legal system. The current series of public programs is devoted to an examination of how lawyers are, and have been, represented in American culture. The premise and orientation of the series is that, because of the seminal role that law and lawyers play in American culture, exploring fundamental legal identities and attributes will help elucidate who we are as Americans.
