Division for Public Education
College & University Programs

The Law and Liberal Arts Faculty Network

The American Bar Association Division for Public Education promotes and facilitates education about law, the legal system, and the role of law in society among college and university students, with special emphasis on undergraduates.

The following programs and resources are available:

Biennial Conferences
In alternate years, the Division holds a higher education conference, inviting faculty from the social sciences, humanities, law and legal studies, public policy, and other fields, to examine a particular topic of law and the liberal arts (e.g., family law, law and science, religion and law). Combining sessions presented by expert scholars in the field, speakers' panels on general themes, and small group discussions on applications for classroom teaching, the conferences provide faculty with a unique chance to encounter new colleagues, concepts, and resources.

Focus on Law Studies and Focus Online
Focus on Law Studies is a bi-annual publication that explores topics and pedagogical approaches to teaching about law in the liberal arts. Reaching an audience of over 5,000 faculty from colleges and universities across the country, Focus on Law Studies offers a forum for ideas, resources, analysis, and opinions on teaching about law in the liberal arts. Recent theme issues include:

    Privacy
    Immigration
    Affirmative Action
    The Death Penalty.

Focus Online is the new interactive version of Focus on Law Studies, where we invite you to add your views on the issues raised in Focus. Read our experts' opinions, add your comments, and order the full text of Focus, free of charge. Recent editions of Online include:

    School Vouchers & Religion
    Immigration

Resource Center (Teaching Resource Bulletins, Syllabi packages, etc.)
The Resource Center is a unique national source of information, teaching materials, and publications, which helps to support and connect the law and liberal arts network of faculty. Order the Teaching Resource Bulletins, which provide in-depth analyses of a wide variety of law-related topics, including environmental law, language and law, and adolescents and the law.
