Closing a Conversation
Bring each conversation to a close within the specified time announced,
but give a fifteen-minute warning as a session draws to a close
to allow time for summarizing what has transpired. Small groups
may be asked to provide 3 or 4 major points raised in the conversation.
Individuals may be asked share beliefs or attitudes that were
reinforced or changed as a result of the conversation. Or participants
may be asked to comment on the efficacy or impact of the conversation
for them. Although it is not necessary that the group come to
any formal conclusion at the end of each session, the feedback
may help the discussion leader in shaping future sessions.
