President's Journal - Ecuador
On November 8th of 2006 Karen Mathis visited the Hogar de la Madre Joven women’s shelter.
Receiving Karen J. Mathis, president of the American Bar Association, was an unforgettable experience for all the women in the shelter. Not only did they benefit from her human quality which permeated through her kind words and smiles, but also, they received from her a new feeling of hope, faith and trust in others. This is something that only a person of Mathis’ stature can achieve.
As to the professionals who work at the shelter, Karen Mathis gave to us a feeling of not being alone in this battle. Her visit represents an important highlight in what has become a great relationship between the shelter and ABA. The American Bar Association has provided enormous support towards the fight we partake in towards the combating of trafficking of children and adolescents.
Karen Mathis’ commitment with our goals, allowing time in her schedule to meet with us and the emotional stimulus she gives to our users and workers at the shelter has become a fond memory which will stay in our hearts.
In great appreciation,
