Nomination Criteria and Application

The ABA Presidential Advisory Council on Diversity is accepting nominations for the Second Annual Raymond Pace and Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander Award for Excellence in Pipeline Diversity. To increase diversity in the legal profession demands work all along the educational pipeline to expand persistence and success of underrepresented students. The purpose of the Alexander Award is to recognize exemplary leadership in pipeline work by an individual or organization. The award will honor those demonstrating success working along the educational pipeline in a collaborative approach involving more than one segment of the continuum from K12 to high school to college to law school to the practice.
The Award will be presented on Friday, February 5th at the 2010 ABA Midyear Meeting in Orlando, Florida.
Criteria
The organization or individual has shown innovation and leadership in educational pipeline diversity programming that involves collaborative partnerships with various segments along the pipeline, for example a program that stretches from high school to law school, or one that extends from college to the profession.
The organization has shown a commitment to documentation and an emerging or existing record of success expanding opportunities for students of color who seek to enter the legal profession;
The organization or individual has influenced other groups to pilot or has shown a willingness to work with others to engage in pipeline programs, including a commitment to sharing experience and encouraging replication
The organization or individual has advanced opportunities for students of color in the educational pipeline to the legal profession.
Nomination Application Requirements
- Nomination Form – complete and submit the nomination form (see below)
- Nominee’s Resume (if an individual and not an organization)
- Brief description of the organization, its mission, and program
- Criteria Narrative – please supply on a separate sheet(s) of paper and attach to the nomination form to the following:
- Describe in detail the nominee’s pipeline diversity program, including the team members and segments of the pipeline represented, longevity of the program, outcomes and measures of the program including number of students served and type of intervention
- Describe how the nominee has exemplified a collaborative approach to addressing diversity in the educational pipeline to the legal profession
- Describe ways in which the individual or organization has significantly changed the landscape of pipeline diversity and committed itself to assisting others in similar efforts
- Two (2) letters in support of the nominee
