Hon.
Theodore McMillian
The
great-grandson of a slave, a man who worked his way through
high school as a train porter and through college as a janitor,
McMillian is viewed as a beacon of light in
civil rights law. He is the first African-American to serve
on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit,
and before taking that seat he accrued many other first
positions, including first in his law school class,
but hopes to be remembered for extending a hand to help
others participate in the American dream. His credo: Its
more important to be human than it is to be important.
