Congratulations to Marcia G. Cooke on her confirmation as the first African American woman to become a federal judge in Florida. The U.S. Senate approved Cooke, 96-0, to sit on the bench in the Southern District of Florida.
Tracey Walker has joined Adorno & Yoss in Atlanta.
Congratulations to Frank H. Wu on being named Dean of Wayne State University Law School.
Manny Prieguez has joined the Miami office of Holand & Knight as a senior policy advisor. He will concentrate on federal, state and local governmental relations.
Congratulations to Michael H. Reed, a partner in the Philadelphia office of Pepper Hamilton on his election as the first African American President of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
Congratulations to Angel Gomez on becoming the Director of the Office of Diversity for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in Bentonville, AR.
Habib Nasrullah became an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Colorado. He is based in Denver.
Long H. Nguyen is the recipient of the Community Service Award from the Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts. Long is the Executive Director of the Vietnamese Initiative for Development.
Suzanne Townsend was recently sworn in as the Chief Judge for the Klamath Tribal Court.
Ena T. Diaz, an attorney with Akerman Senterfitt in Miami, has been appointed director of the Miami-Dade County chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers.
Margaret Montoya was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the seventh annual National Latina/o Law Student Conference. Montoya is on the faculty of the University of New Mexico.
Joy V. Cunningham has been installed as the first African American woman president of the Chicago Bar Association. Cunningham is the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Larry Rogers, Jr. has been elected president of the Cook County Bar Association (IL). He is an associate with Powers Rogers & Smith in Chicago.
Heather Chang is the recipient of the Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts’ annual scholarship. Heather is a first year law student at Northeastern University School of Law.
Homero Tristan has been elected president of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois. He is name partner with Tristan Ports in Chicago.
Neera Walsh, the supervisor of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s first municipal community prosecutions has been elected president of the Asian American Bar Association in Chicago.
Alice Young of Kaye Scholer LLP in New York was honored by the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund at its 30th anniversary celebration.
Congratulations to Corliss Lawson on becoming the managing partner of Lord Bissell & Brook’s Atlanta office.
Sharon E. Jones of Fuse 3 Group in Chicago has been elected president of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Illinois.
Wolf Block in Philadelphia has named Bernard Lee as the firm’s vice chair, making him the first African American to hold one of the top two management positions in a large Philadelphia firm.
Carwina Weng was elected Treasurer of the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts. Carina is a clinical professor Boston College Law School.
