Congratulations to Cesar Alvarez, the President and CEO of Greenberg Traurig in Miami on being named the Lawyer of the Year by the Hispanic National Bar Association. Cesar is the first and only Latino lawyer to lead a major firm in the U.S.
Nhan H.T. Hguyan, a student at the University of Houston Law Center, won an honorable mention in Foley & Lardner's Intellectual Property Writing Competition. Congratulations!
Aneel Cheblani of the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago, Selma D'Souza of Mondero, Rim, D'Souza & Gosrisirikul, S. Raja Krishnamoorthi, and Prabha Parameswaran of Arthur Andersen were panelists for a program on legal careers and job opportunities that was presented by the Indian American Bar Association.
Victor Olds has left the U.S. Attorney's Office to join Holland & Knight's New York office.
Congratulations to Anita M. Alvarez who was selected as Chicago Lawyer Magazine's 2001 Person of the Year. Anita is the bureau chief of Special Prosecutions for the Cook County (IL) State's Attorney's Office and the highest ranking Hispanic attorney to ever serve in the Criminal Division of that office.
Amrita Dalal has joined the legal department of GAF Materials Corporation in New Jersey.
Congratulations to Marsha E. Simms of Weil Gotshal & Manges on being selected to receive the Ruth Whitehead Whaley Award for Professional Achievement from the Association of Black Women Attorneys in New York.
Sergio Garcia-Rodriguez is the new Vice-President and General Counsel for Protein Design Labs, Inc. in Fremont, CA.
Judge Timothy C. Evans, the Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, was recently honored by the Women's Bar Association of Illinois for his contributions to equal justice under law and his success in promoting dignity and civility in the practice of law.
Lucas S. Chang was elected to partner in the Silicon Valley office of Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe. Congratulations!
Cruz Reynoso, a former associate justice of the California Supreme Court, has accepted an appointment as the first recipient of the University of California at Davis School of Law's Boochever and Bird Chair, dedicated to the study and teaching of freedom and equality.
