Mr. Wilkins played a key role in establishing the National Museum of African American History and Culture Plan for Action Presidential Commission, and he was appointed to the Commission by the United States Senate. In 2003, Congress approved the plans of the Presidential Commission by authorizing the construction of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the newest addition to the Smithsonian.
Mr. Wilkins was the lead plaintiff in Wilkins, et al. v. State of Maryland, winning a landmark settlement in a racial profiling case, inspiring data collection requirements in an Executive Order and legislative proposals in Congress and states all over the country.
Mr. Wilkins currently serves on the D.C. Access to Justice Commission.
