"I am an ABA member because I wanted to be involved with a bar association where I knew that I could learn by associating with other lawyers, both black and white. Over the years I have had a chance to attend some of the outstanding seminars sponsored by the ABA and I have had a chance to chat with lawyers from around the county about their area of expertise. In many instances, I have been able to take lecture materials back to my law firm for distribution and we have used them in perfecting our practice.
I think minority lawyers should be ABA members because it has always been my theory that you learn by being involved with other members. It was through the ABA that my firm was selected to participate in the Minority Counsel Demonstration Program and through the program, I met many outstanding lawyers throughout the country. We came together as a group and talked about issues and our involvement and how we could better ourselves as lawyers. My association has meant so much to me in my practice".
