Piles of Files:

Three lawyers have been practicing as the ABC partnership for the past 30 years. They have amassed thousands of client files, most of which are now closed.
 
The firm will soon run out of space and will be forced to rent additional storage.
 
The lawyers would like to have an established protocol in place whereby they can review the files and make decisions as to which files they should keep. For those files they decide to destroy, which items in each file should be returned to the client?
 
What are the ethical considerations they should keep in mind when deciding whether to keep or destroy closed client files?
