Important programs your ABA
membership makes possible

As we start a new calendar year, we want to thank you for your continued membership and remind you of how it supports the many activities of the ABA.

The ABA has hundreds of activities that support the legal profession, society and your practice.

For those of you who have let your membership lapse, consider these programs as important reasons to renew.

Here is information on a few programs you may not know about:

The Criminal Justice Section (http://www.abanet.org/crimjust/home.html) publishes standards that have guided policy makers working in the criminal justice arena for more than 40 years. The section briefs cases as soon as they are decided by the U.S. Supreme Court, publishes critical analysis of groundbreaking court decisions and legislation, and posts this information to their Web site for all lawyerss to review.

The Young Lawyers Division (http://www.abanet.org/yld/) provides new lawyers with basic training in substantive and practical aspects of the practice of law. Additionally, the YLD encourages diversity in the profession, public service activities and leadership development.

The ABA Lawyers’ Professional Liability Hotline (http://www.abanet.org/legalservices/lpl/hotline.html ) provides advice on malpractice insurance including: assistance finding a professional liability insurance carrier, analyzing malpractice policy coverage, and avoiding insurance gaps.

The Commission on Women in the Profession (http://www.abanet.org/women/home.html ) consistently issues groundbreaking reports—Visible Invisibility: Women of Color in Law Firms; Charting Our Progress: The Status of Women in the Profession Today; The Unfinished Agenda: A Report on the Status of Women in the Legal Profession to name a few.

These examples simply touch on a few of the investments the ABA has made in the legal profession. When combined with practice assistance, cutting-edge CLE and the valuable savings on products and services offered to members-only, the reasons for being an ABA member are endless.

Thank you again for your continued support. If you have any questions or need to renew your membership, please contact our Service Center at 1-800-285-2221.
