Midyear Meeting ahead: What’s hot, happening?

Educational programs, award presentations and the ABA House of Delegates session are on tap for the ABA Midyear Meeting. Nearly 3,000 lawyers are expected to attend the ABA Midyear Meeting, slated for Los Angeles Feb. 6-12. For more information, or to register, click here. The housing deadline for the meeting is Jan. 4, 2008.

Highlights of the meeting include:

    • “The Young Lawyer Summit,” a new program sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division that will address some of the top issues facing young lawyers today—striking a work-life balance, dealing with law school debt and managing a legal career.
    • “Pathways to Success for Women and Minorities in the Public Sector” program will feature a panel of public lawyer-leaders who will describe their current positions and the obstacles, encouragement and events that helped them achieve their success. The program is sponsored by the Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division.
    • The presentation of the Robert F. Drinan Award, which is given to an individual who provides leadership to the legal profession in protecting and advancing human rights, civil liberties and social justice. The Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities sponsors the award.
    • The Judicial Clerkship Program Luncheon, sponsored by the Presidential Council on Diversity in the Profession, brings minority law students and judges together through structured networking activities.
    • “Pathways to Employment in International Law,” sponsored by the Section of International Law.
    • The Senior Lawyers Division's “Meet and Greet Reception.”

The association’s policymaking body, the House of Delegates—made up of nearly 550 members—will also meet to consider and vote on recommendations before it. Once a recommendation is approved by the House, the ABA may lobby on the issue.

Headquarters for the meeting will be the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. Unlike the association’s Annual Meeting, there is no registration fee for the Midyear Meeting.
