Litigation posts conference materials online
If you couldn't make the Section of Litigation's 2007 Committee Joint CLE Seminar in Snowbird, Utah, you will find materials from this program as well as others in pdf format on the section's Web site.
"Environmental Remediation and Toxic Tort Litigation: Keeping the Two Connected," "Settling the Big Case" and "Discovery Torts: Coming Soon to a Mass Tort Case Near You" are just a few of the topics covered online.
As part of the "In-House Counsel Speak Out" resources, Carol Needham offers tips on "Enhancing a Law Department's Flexibility to Respond to Unexpected Challenges: Multi-jurisdictional Practice and the In-House Lawyer." A professor at the St. Louis University School of Law, Needham speaks and researches ethics issues involving corporate practice. In her online materials, she suggests, for example, that a firm gather licensing information by designating a single person to collect requirements about the jurisdiction in which each attorney is currently licensed to bring any licensing issues to light.
She also points out that determining the unauthorized practice of law can be more difficult than one might expect because while some states have enacted controlling statutes, in a greater number of jurisdictions the licensing is governed by a regulation.
In addition to the PDF version of materials, the section offers selected CLE credit programming on podcast to listen via MP3 or to download for purchase to qualify for CLE credit.
