One-stop shopping for resources in finance, marketing, management and technology

When it comes to helping you market your law practice or manage your law office technology, the Law Practice Management Web site offers a wealth of resources.

One of the articles on marketing, "10 Easy Ideas to Woo Your Target Audience Online," suggests adding audio clips about your products or services to your Web site as a way to connect with prospective clients. The article, by Jen Blackert, points out that many of us learn with our ears as well as our eyes, noting that these clips may offer an additional way to establish successful business relationships.

Her article "10 Easy Ideas to Woo Your Target Audience Online" is just one of the articles, books and continuing legal education programs accessible at the Law Practice Management Section's Web site, which divides resources into four major headings: finance, marketing, management and technology.

Under the technology heading is an article by lawyer Barron K. Henley, a founding member of Henley March & Unger Consulting, Inc. According to Henley, technology promises efficiency and convenience, but buying software to handle such functions as billing and accounting can lead to delays.

"If you try to [install] it yourself, one of two things will happen. You put the box on the shelf and tell yourself you will get to it next week." Or, he notes, you might insert the CD into your computer and follow the prompts until you have question to which you don't know the answers. In that instance as well, he cautions, you might tell yourself you will get to it next week. "'Next week' quickly becomes a moving target that always remains seven days away."

Henley's article, "Hardware and Software: You Bought It, You've Got It—Now Use It!" contains suggestions for how lawyers can take advantage of the promise of technology, including how to find resources to help.
