Young Lawyers Division member service project
provides newest lawyers with basic training in substance and practice of law
The ABA Young Lawyers Division is presenting the “101 Practice
Series” as
its member service project for the year. The goal of the series is to provide
new lawyers – those in their first three years of practice – with basic training
in both substantive and practical aspects of the practice of law. Among the
problems new lawyers often face, according to the division’s Web site, is
a lack of mentoring, inadequate practical skills such as drafting contracts,
and a tendency to specialize too early in their career before they become
well-rounded in other areas of law.
The Young Lawyers Division will host four conferences during the year, as well
as post articles with key information on the project Web site.
Among the featured 101 articles available are: “Opening Your Own Shop – 10
Things You Should Know,” “Women 101 – Top 10 Issues that All Young
Women Lawyers Should Know,” and “Practical Tips for Closing the Deal.”
If you would like to become involved in the project, get in touch with Sunil
R. Harjani, Vice-Director of Membership for the division, at sunilharjani@abanet.org.
