Application deadline looms for DirectWomen Institute
DirectWomen, an ABA presidential initiative, is designed to identify, develop
and support accomplished women lawyers to provide qualified directors needed
by the boards of U.S. companies. At the same time, the program is intended
to promote the diversity and independence needed for good corporate governance.
The initiative is sponsored by the ABA Section of Business Law and Catalyst,
Inc., a research and advisory organization working with corporations and
firms to advance women in the workplace.
The inaugural DirectWomen Institute will be held March 29-30,
with an opening reception on the evening of March 28. Institute participants
will have the opportunity to network with distinguished women currently serving
on U.S. corporate boards, as well as top representatives of executive search
firms.
The two-day conference will feature some of the nation's leading experts
on corporate governance as well as experienced women directors. Topics to
be addressed include the roles and responsibilities of the director and the
board, leadership and strategy, the fundamentals of financial statements,
and officers' liability.
Applications for the DirectWomen Institute are currently being received.
The deadline for applying to the inaugural program is February 5. Much more
information, and an application, are available online here.
