Attorney-mentors sought for law students with disabilities
The
American Bar Association's Commission on Mental & Physical
Disability Law has developed a mentor
program for law students with disabilities. The
program pairs an established lawyer with a law student, taking
into account the student's interests, geographical area, practice
areas and types of disability. The lawyer may or may
not have a disability.
The experienced lawyer-mentors provide academic and career advice as well as other means of support for the student. The law students participating in the program have various types of disabilities including mental, physical and learning disabilities. For students, the program is a means for beginning to develop professional networks of colleagues. For established lawyers, the program can serve as a way to become involved with the ABA – and to help a younger lawyer thrive. More mentors are always needed for the program, and you can learn more about the experience in an article originally published in Student Lawyer, and republished here.
