Blogging on to improve your practice

Feeling at a disadvantage because you don't have a large network of colleagues with whom to discuss professional issues? Are you at a loss when it comes to new technology and how it fits in with your career and office? The ABA General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Division has a resource to help on these fronts and others with its "Blawgs" Web site page.

A blog is a Web site in which journal entries are posted on a regular basis and displayed in reverse chronological order. Once dismissed by many as simply forums for novices to share their thoughts online with the universe, blogs have become an important part of newsgathering and distribution, community and local activities, as well as a source of networking and career development.

Tips to manage email, as well as reviews of the latest Adobe Acrobat upgrade are just two of the bits of information you might find when you click on the "digital practice of law link" from the main blawgs page. On the "My Shingle" page, you might read responses to a query on how to approach local law firms regarding subcontracting work. Or you might hear differing views on the benefits of a Blackberry.

Other items of interest include links to law-related news stories, polling questions, tools to help you start your own blog, and anecdotes of lawyers who work out of their homes. Log on to learn more.
